Paramount's Carowinds "Vortex"
Charlotte, North Carolina

The Vortex was installed in 1992 by Bollinger and Mabillard of Switzerland. This ride is knows as a "stand-up" coaster.  It stands 90 feet tall, and has a running time of about 2:19.  It reaches speeds of 50 miles per hour, and travels a span of 2,040 feet.  It has two 28-person, 8 car trains which can move about 1,240 passengers in an hour's time.  Carowinds is located directly on the border of North and South Carolina, in fact, the background photo for this page shows a photo of the Thunder Road coaster which straddles both states! Carowinds also has a nicely kept waterpark.
