Coney Island "CYCLONE"
Brooklyn, New York |
|
The Coney Island "Cyclone" was originally installed in
1927 by Harry C Baker, using the design of Vernan Keenan. The original cost was
$100,000. The track is 3,000 feet long, and reaches speeds of about 60 miles per
hour. The lift hill is 85 feet high, and the ride generally lasts about 1 minute and
50 seconds. There are three 3-car trains, each seating 24 people. The Cyclone has
been acknowledged as a National Historic Landmark |

| This is
of the inspection track of the Cyclone. This area makes it easy to do an inspection,
lubricate and make repairs to the underside of the trains. To see more photos like this,

| These
are of the Thunderbolt. It is about two blocks from the Cyclone. It is a sad looking
machine after being dormant for something like 30 years I am told. |

| Falling apart |
Who's the person
living under this coaster anyway? |
The tree in the track
adds a special touch, yes? |

| It's enough to make
you want to step back in time. |
Sorry, but there's not
much hope for these cars. |
I don't know who uses
these new-looking chairs...ghosts? |
