This is Silverwood, a relatively young park
located in northern Idaho, a short distance from Spokane, Washington. Silverwood sits on
the site of an old airport, which is no longer in use except for an occasional park guest
who would rather fly their plane in than drive. They have 3 coasters, all pictured
above. The newest one, Tremors, was built by Custom Coasters in 1999. It
is 3,000 feet long, 100 feet high, and the tallest drop is 103 feet into the first of four
tunnels. It's single 24-person train reaches speeds of up to 60 miles an hour and can
accommodate about 400 passengers per hour.
Their second
coaster, Timber Terror is 85 feet high, has 2,700 feet of track, and
reaches speeds of 55 miles per hour...and don't let the speeds or heights fool you...these
are both awesome coasters! They sure made my horribly mundane 3000 mile drive
across the country worth my while! This ride also has one 24 passenger train which
can also move 400 people an hour. It was installed in 1996 by Custom Coasters.
Their third coaster, The Corkscrew
is an Arrow steel coaster. It is 1,200 feet long, 70 feet high, and reaches speeds
of 46 miles an hour. It has one 24 passenger train capable of moving 600 people per hour.
Silverwood is not a really large
park, but it is definitely an attractive park, with it's antique steam train, antique
carousel, and of course your average carnival-type rides too. I got a kick out of their
water balloon slingshots that they have set up next to the Timber Terror coaster.
These folks sure were getting a kick out of smacking each other with these little water
balloons...and making a heck of a mess! I pity the kid who's got to run around
picking up all those little rubber pieces out of the grass each day.
The crowds don't
appear to be a real problem there, although I was there on a Wednesday, and the lines did
not appear to be very long at all. Even with one train, the coasters do seem to
accommodate the crowds well. You can visit the Silverwood website for more info, or give them a
call at 208-683-3400. Please let them know where you heard about them. |
