| No, as a matter of fact, the above
photo was not the result of a freak accident... someone actually planned to do this!
This is an amusement ride you see here, and this IS actually being held up by this
ridiculous blocking. I GUARANTEE you, I would never allow my little brother and
sister to go on this slide. You DO see what is wrong with this photo, right? I
certainly hope you can be perceptive to these safety hazards when you are out riding on
carnival rides this summer. Ok, for those of you that just didn't catch it,
(probably all of you did) the ride should not operate with this lackadaisical method of
supporting the structure. Sure, the parks have permanent rides that do not get moved, and
are firmly mounted or bolted to the ground, but with carnivals moving from week to week
and not always having level flat ground to set up on, they sometimes can get lazy in their
methods. Blocking itself should always be level...not with the surface of the
ground, but level with the force of gravity. The ride in the above photo stands
about 40-50 feet in the air, so you think to yourself what could happen if your kids are
on this slide and a big 'ol gust of wind comes along and causes this thing to shift so
much as a centimeter! I got news for ya!---I wouldn't want to be on the wrong side
of it OR ON IT when it falls over!
By no means is improper blocking a rare occurrence, so USE COMMON
SENSE when you are looking at an amusement device and trying to decide whether to
ride!
